red-wine-pour2.jpgI emerged from Seeing ‘Sideways’ last Friday with two things: some serious trepidation concerning the world’s entire male population, and a resolution to give pinot noirs a second chance.
I know very little about wines besides that shirazes are spicy, merlots are boring, and pinot noirs are bitter. But seeing as none of these are really deep statements we headed on over to Bardeo in Cleveland Park.

  • I haven’t seen Sideways yet (waiting for DVD), but I read Waiter Rant’s amusing account of the Merlot-bashing and pinot noir shortage. On a related note, I just got an email from my favorite local winery, Breaux Vineyards. Their vertical tasting of their Merlots is coming up on February 19th. At $35, I think it’s a little pricey, but should be interesting 🙂

  • I’ve never thought of Pinots as bitter…often tart es, but that’s different. One of my favorite varieties though. Probably the two best reds I’ve ever had were Pinot Noirs…one was the Martin Zahn/Caves Voncoles Ribeauville Grand Cru Reserve 1999(?), the other a 1988 Burgandy (consumed in 2004) the name of which I totally forget, but I had it at Meze on 18th Street.
    I hereby propose a DCF

  • Name your time and place mister, we can post it up for anyone who wants to join. I did really like Bardeo, but there are plenty of good mid-priced wine places around.
