  • The general consensus in places like the Chowhound.com message boards is that none of the restaurants in Chinatown, or any other part of DC proper, have really worthwhile dim sum. There may be a few relatively decent places that others can recommend, though.
The strongest recommendations are usually for places in NoVa (whose names I forget) and a few places in Montgomery County: Oriental East in Silver Spring, Good Fortune in Wheaton, New Fortune in Gaithersburg. I’ve eaten at both Oriental East and Good Fortune and highly recommend them both. But get there early or be prepared to wait to be seated!

  • Far and away the best Dim Sum I’ve ever had is in Montgomery County (Aspen Hill, to be specific), at a restaurant called Silver Fountain. It’s in the Aspen Hill Mall, which I know sounds ridiculous, but they are just top notch. It gets crowded, so get there early, and you may have to specially request the Chinese Broccoli (as it goes really, really quickly), but I’ve eaten Dim Sum all over the DC area and nothing satisfies me like Silver Fountain.
