Below are some of the best things we’ve eaten recently:

- The fried chicken breast at GBD (Golden Brown Delicious) in Dupont is wonderful, but takes them 20 minutes to cook. Eat a passionfruit or chocolate pudding doughnut while you wait!
-
- Gryphon (a couple of doors down from GBD in Dupont) makes good sides including Brussels sprouts and macaroni and cheese.

- Conner’s Beach Cafe is above the boardwalk (with a great view) at Ocean City, MD, and has an perfectly seasoned and fried fish fillet sandwich that is too big forthe bun and only $9.
-
- We had some great appetizers at Dino’s Grotto in Shaw during September’s DC Food Blogger Happy hour. I ordered this great burger, and every component was great, although it’s quite messy!
-
- We had some great bagel sandwiches, hamentashen, black and white cookies, and muffins at Oceanside Bagel Cafe. Yes, it’s in Long Island, NY.

- Westmoreland Berry Farm’s Very Berry Pie from the Ballston Farmers Market (Thursdays).

Two evenings this week, Cy and I attended restaurant events where some very tasty small dishes were served to us. The first of these events was at Gryphon‘s opening. The food was much better than most of the bars I have been to. While we were not fans of the fried cheese balls, there were some standout dishes including:

- Little cuban sandwiches!

- Cy is still raving about the sliders, which were cooked medium.
-
- The mac and cheese was good but was supposed to be served with crawfish.
-
- The beef on grits was a standout dish.
-
- Can’t go wrong with chocolate and raspberries.
-
- The beef tacos with kimchi were delicious.
-

- Ok, while I was not a fan of the alligator bites, Cy was.

- Fried Oysters. Yum!
The following evening, we attended the preview night for Zaytinya’s annual Greek Easter Celebration. This special menu runs from March 31st through May 5th. I always enjoy showing up at this event and finding several huge hunks of lamb turning on a spit. I loved the Apokreas cocktail, which is made from a combination of Metaxa, Verjus, and maple syrup and is garnished with red pickled quail egg and baby carrots. Some of the standout dishes were:

- Tell me the Flintstone’s wouldn’t be proud of these huge hunks of spit-roasted lamb shoulder!
-
- This is the lamb in question, fresh off the spit and tasty!
-
- These little pancakes were delicious!.

- Peas on tzatziki suce.

- Tasty grilled veggies!

- The Apokreas cocktail.
